Extra Mile’s schools currently serve over 800 children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The schools have met rigorous criteria and earned accreditation by the nationally respected Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Studies by the University of Pittsburgh have rated the schools as outstanding. High marks have been given in all major school characteristics, including parental involvement, expectations set for students, the teaching environment, the student learning process, acquisition of basic skills, and strong instructional leadership.
Extra Mile’s student population is predominantly African American and non-Catholic. More than 75% of our students qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, and 60% of our students live in single-family homes.
Despite the difficulties that many students face, 95% of Extra Mile students attend school daily and are on task in the classroom. Parent participation in educational conferences is nearly 98%.
